Zoo Lights & Reindeer Parade

Where wildlife meets wild lights! ZooLights returns to Hogle Zoo this holiday season with more sparkling lights, over 250 animated light displays, and more nightly fun than ever before! View glittering animated animals made out of lights, warm up under heaters and enjoy a hot chocolate and deep-fried s’more along the way. Take a ride on the Conservation Carousel (weather permitting) and then stop in to see Santa in EdZoocation Station! Stop into the Wild Zootique to finish your holiday shopping and pick up some hologram glasses to see the lights as never before.

Join the Reindeer Parade!

Join the reindeer parade each evening at 5:15 in the Entry Plaza as two of Santa’s tiny reindeer make their way to Santa’s Station – then visit with the Jolly Old Elf himself! Santa’s Reindeer will leave ZooLights! with Santa on Christmas Eve.

Family Friendly Early New Year’s Countdown

Get the kids in bed on time while still letting them ring in the new year, with our early countdown at 9 pm at ZooLights! Kids can do a New Year craft, get a noisemaker, and count down with our lighted countdown display. Come early to see all the lights and enjoy the last night of ZooLights.

Trees of Diversity

Utah Cultural Tree Exhibit

For nearly twenty years, the Utah Cultural Celebration Center has featured a holiday tree exhibit that overflows from the Celebration Gallery, and throughout the entire facility. Each year the number of groups involved, including arts, cultural, non-profit, and commercial, has grown and grown. The purpose of this exhibit is to bring the community together to celebrate various holiday traditions not only from different countries but from different religious backgrounds and various family or community traditions. The tree is used as a sign of friendship and is used to display the art and artifacts representing the richness of our community traditions.

This year the Trees of Diversity exhibition will have over 25 trees and holiday scenes created by various community and ethnic groups. Included are Amish, Honduran, American Indian, Chilean, Peruvian, and other South American countries, Mexico, Japan, Canada, Africa, Hawaii, Scotland, and others. The Cultural Center will also display artifacts and other historical items from around the world, along with art pieces, nativities, nutcrackers, gingerbread houses, special holiday “store window” scenes, sculptures, and wreaths. Two special displays will highlight holiday traditions in both the Jewish and Muslim communities, and the 100+ Dolls from Around the World collection will once again be on display.

Christmas On Temple Square

The Temple Square Christmas lights and concerts are an annual tradition and a top favorite for many Utah locals. The lights are turned on each year the day after the Thanksgiving holiday and remain on through New Year’s Day. During these evenings, Temple Square is usually aglow with over one million lights, musical performances, and holiday cheer.

Christmas At Heritage Park

It’s hard to describe the magic of Candlelight Christmas. The Village is decorated like a Currier & Ives card, and you’ll feel like you’ve taken a step back in time when you visit this enchanting event.

You’ll enjoy a visit with Father Christmas and see real live reindeer. In the quiet of the Village, the live Nativity scene is sure to touch the hearts of young and old alike. The Heritage Village Carolers return each year for an encore presentation, providing an inspiring backdrop to the glitter of lights, the glow of warm fires, and the smells of Christmas.

Take home a little bit of Christmas by joining in the fun of making crafts and homemade decorations in one of the decorated historic homes or pioneer cabins. And you can save all your holiday shopping for your visit to the Park. The Gift Shop at the Visitors Center and the ZCMI Mercantile have Salt Lake’s best selection of unique, all-occasion gifts for everyone on your list!

Observe a Christmas as the pioneers did – quieter, simpler, and fun for all. Make Candlelight Christmas part of your cherished family traditions.
