A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol, Hale Theatre, Orem, Utah

Often lauded as the “second greatest Christmas story ever told,” Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol will usher you into the season of giving. This traditional story of Scrooge and his ghostly visitors is filled with old-world charm, beautiful costumes, breathtaking music, and, of course, a full helping of Hale’s heart and comedy.

No Christmas Season is complete without the din of family dinners, glorious games, magical mistletoe, caroling carolers, firkins of wassail, and Dickens’ timeless characters that embody Christmas cheer: Bob Cratchit, Mr. Scrooge, three Christmas ghosts, and of course, Tiny Tim. Whether you have seen it once, fifty times, or more, Hale Center Theater Orem invites you to be their guest for an evening as you escape all the noise, commercialism, and greed that have invaded this time of year so you can remember what the season is all about.

Festival of Lights

Festival of Lights, Spanish Fork, Utah

Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple

Classical and folk dancing, live music, dramas, a ceremony of lights, a huge vegetarian feast, and an offering of respect to a live cow.

The Festival of Lights occurs during the lull between fall harvests and the onset of the monsoons. Thus it is a time of thanksgiving, and that corollary festival is called Anna Kuta (literally meaning “heaps of food”). Lord Krishna inaugurated this festival by inspiring the inhabitants of His village (Vrndavan) to worship the cows on this one day per year and to prepare a huge celebratory feast consisting of no less than 108 preparations.

Guests are encouraged to prepare vegetarian dishes at home (without onions or garlic) and bring them to the temple to augment the devotional offerings. Optionally, one could bring fruits or flowers.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the 1975 film adaptation of the British musical stageplay, The Rocky Horror Show. The movie is a parody of science fiction and B-movie horror films. Still, in limited release 35 years after its premiere, it has the longest-running theatrical release in film history. It gained notoriety as a midnight movie in 1977 when audiences began participating in the film in theatres. Rocky Horror is the first film from a major Hollywood studio to be in the midnight movie market. The motion picture has a large international following and is one of the most well-known and financially successful midnight movies of all time.

Nightmare Mansion Auditions

Haunted House

The owners of Castle of Chaos and the new Nightmare Mansion are looking for the biggest, the tallest, and the scariest people to work as actors to frighten audiences at their two haunted houses. The company is holding three auditions in August and September and hopes to hire 100 part-time, seasonal employees to work during the big haunting season. The company is also looking for volunteers.

“Scaring people is a dream job for many,” says James Bernard, Castle of Chaos and Nightmare Mansion owner. “We are actually going to pay people to come out and put their most socially unacceptable skills to work. Volunteers will receive incentives like t-shirts, tickets, and hats.”
