Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake

To inspire and enable the youth in our communities, especially those who need us most, to become caring and responsible individuals through guidance-oriented adult relationships and engagement in a variety of enriching activities within a safe environment.

A Safe Place:
The Club is a safe place where kids and teens can come to enjoy themselves and their friends while escaping from the dangers that may lie within their own neighborhood.

Opportunities:
Club members have the opportunity to learn and grow, give back to the community, discover their needs, set goals and meet new friends. Many of these opportunities would not be available to our youth were it not for the Club in their neighborhood.

A Full Schedule of Great Activities:
Games, tournaments, arts and crafts, dance, sports, leadership clubs, music, discussion groups, homework and tutoring help, and computer classes…just to name a few!

Outreach and Services for Teens:
A teen drop-in center, opportunities to volunteer and become a peer leader and mentor, along with specialized services geared for the needs and interests of teens.

Living History Attraction

The West…just as it was! Step back in time with a visit to This Is The Place Heritage Park. The non-profit This Is The Place Foundation manages Utah’s premier living history attraction, our historic 450-acre Utah State Park. Our mission is to preserve and promote the heritage and history of Utah. You’ll find it alive in storied accounts of the settlement of the West, told by our knowledgeable interpreters in a setting of original and replica historic homes. You’ll also see artisans and interpreters demonstrate 19th Century frontier life in a working environment. While you look on, the blacksmith explains his trade while he creates items used elsewhere in the Village, and the furniture maker turns ordinary wood into a masterpiece!

A lively variety of domestic skills are demonstrated in Village homes. You can watch wool being carded and spun into yarn that will be colored with a kaleidoscope of dyes made from native plants, many grown right here at the Park. At another historic building, candles are being dipped layer-by-layer over a small open fire in the backyard, and quilting demonstrations are sure to leave you warm at heart!

A visit to the Park is not a tour of historic artifacts behind velvet ropes and glass, but a true experience of life as it was in the early days of the West. The Native American Village offers a window to a world long since gone, where members of Utah’s indigenous tribes interpret the history of their native people. You can also enjoy the Park from the comfort of one of our three replica trains and see and hear the history of the settlement, or simply spend the day walking the quiet streets on your own.

Elsewhere in the 450-acre Park is our Visitors’ Center, the welcome center of the Park. There you’ll find one of our newest attractions, the Heritage Park Preview exhibition, along with one of Utah’s finest gift and souvenir shops. The ZCMI Mercantile inside the Park is filled with old-fashioned gifts and candy and is sure to be one of your most memorable shopping experiences during your visit.

Christmas At Heritage Park

It’s hard to describe the magic of Candlelight Christmas. The Village is decorated like a Currier & Ives card, and you’ll feel like you’ve taken a step back in time when you visit this enchanting event.

You’ll enjoy a visit with Father Christmas and see real live reindeer. In the quiet of the Village, the live Nativity scene is sure to touch the hearts of young and old alike. The Heritage Village Carolers return each year for an encore presentation, providing an inspiring backdrop to the glitter of lights, the glow of warm fires, and the smells of Christmas.

Take home a little bit of Christmas by joining in the fun of making crafts and homemade decorations in one of the decorated historic homes or pioneer cabins. And you can save all your holiday shopping for your visit to the Park. The Gift Shop at the Visitors Center and the ZCMI Mercantile have Salt Lake’s best selection of unique, all-occasion gifts for everyone on your list!

Observe a Christmas as the pioneers did – quieter, simpler, and fun for all. Make Candlelight Christmas part of your cherished family traditions.

Burning Man Festival, Project, Nevada, Art Festival, Music, Arts & Crafts

Burning Man is an eight-day-long annual festival that takes place in Black Rock City, a temporary city on the playa of the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, 90 miles (150 km) north-northeast of Reno, ending on the American Labor Day holiday in September.

The event is described by organizers as an experiment in community, radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance and takes its name from the ritual of burning a large wooden sculpture of a man on the sixth day.
