The Devil Whale w/ Red Jacket Mine

The first time I heard Brinton play was at Humpy’s [Anchorage, AK]…and I was blown away. He took the stage, played a couple chords, sang two notes, and completely silenced the crowd. He took charge of the room and by the end of his first song I seriously had butterflies. He is a killer lyricist, and also writes those melodies that get stuck in your head for days and days.

Anyone who has heard the music of Brinton Jones will agree that his songs are literature of the heart. Like a book bound by melody, harmony, and honesty, they unfold before you. Paragraphs become verses and chapters become choruses, leaving room for interpretation & relation. Brinton is an author as much as he is a songwriter. After you’ve heard his music and shut the book, you feel close to something that, before, felt so far away. You long to hear it again. Square Magazine

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a New York City-based indie rock band. The band consists of lead singer Karen O, drummer Brian Chase, and guitarist Nick Zinner. In 2000 they formed a trio, and were later joined by second guitarist Imaad Wasif in 2006 for touring purposes. According to an interview that aired during the ABC network’s Live from Central Park SummerStage series, the band’s name was taken from modern New York City vernacular. The band has recorded three studio albums; the first, Fever to Tell, was released in 2003. The second, Show Your Bones, was released in 2006 and was named the second best album of the year by NME. Their third studio album, It’s Blitz!, was released on March 31, 2009 in the USA and on April 6, 2009 in the rest of the world.

Blonde Redhead

Blonde Redhead’s noisy, dissonant guitars, alternate tunings, and quiet, stilted lyrics have often been compared to early Sonic Youth. After randomly meeting at an Italian restaurant in New York, Japanese art students Kazu Makino and Maki Takahashi and Italian twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace formed the band in 1993. Karma is a SAMA award-winning (South African equivalent of the Grammy) singer-songwriter and the former lead singer of South Africa’s platinum selling band Henry Ate. She moved to the United States in 2003, bringing with her an undeniable talent, addictive songs and an uncanny ability to captivate every listener with mesmerizing performances.

Karma’s sound is reminiscent of Suzanne Vega and Natalie Merchant infused with the pop friendliness of The Cranberries, while her writing channels the likes of Dylan, Griffin and Mitchell offering an infusion of social satire, quick wit, heartfelt melancholy and in-your-face honesty – attributes which have earned her the title of 1 Wordsmith in her native South Africa and landed her a publishing deal with Urband & Lazar Music Publishing here in the US.

With two solo albums under her belt, “Don’t Walk Fly” engineered by Grammy Award-winner Scott Canto (Shakira, Jon Secada, Nine Inch Nails, Ricky Martin) and “papercuts” co-produced by Grammy Award-winner John D Thomas (Lauryn Hill, P.Diddy, Prince, Missy Elliot, Jamie Foxx) plus the hit single “I Feel Like I’m Dying” with Lil’ Wayne for which Karma’s song “Once” was sampled and is at the center of what has been called a landmark case in a copyright law in the US, Karma is well on her way to showing the rest of the world what South Africa already knows: Here is an amazingly prolific young songwriter who is teetering on the brink of worldwide recognition.
