Arienette

Arienette, Singer-Songwriter, West Jordan, Utah, Acoustic, Folk, MusicianI have been involved with music ever since I can remember. I started my musical journey at a very young age by taking piano lessons and I was so excited that I would skip ahead through lessons and memorize all the songs in every book. At the same time I also participated in children choirs and loved performing. After my first experiences on stage I knew this is where I belonged.

I soon began playing the clarinet in elementary school and then switched to the oboe in middle school. My grandfather played the bass guitar during the 60’s in an Akron Ohio band called the “Blues Society”. When he passed away my older sister bought a bass guitar to help remember him. I picked up that bass guitar at age 11 and fell in love with Jazz music. I have played in my middle school, high school, and college jazz bands. I also played the bass in a few project bands.

I wrote my first song “Walk Away”when I was 14 and couldn’t stop writing after that. I started playing in bands and writing songs on my own, and collaborating with other musicians. It was difficult to write songs when playing the bass guitar so I turned back to the piano and later taught myself to play the guitar. For me music is like colors on a canvas. When I hear music I see color. Writing songs is like this thing inside of me dying to get out.

I love to perform and find myself completely at home on stage. It is the place where I am most comfortable. I have independently recorded and released two full-length albums and I am working on promoting and playing around the Utah. I find recording a little frustrating because it is so hard to make the final product sound the way I hear it in my head.

In my current music project I go by the name Arienette. I’ve been working full time on my music other than attending a semester of music classes at Salt Lake community College. The summer of 2011 has been quite busy for me I’ve been playing shows twice a week and promoting my new CD. I look forward to the future and the possibilities it might hold for me.

Mary Tebbs

Mary Tebbs Singer-Songwriter, Salt Lake City, Utah, Squatters Pub, Acoustic Music, Folk

“I’m a singer/songwriter committed to sharing and exploring further my journey into awareness and discovering more deeply my connection to the universe. I’m excited to share my personal discovery of the fullness of what a gift this life is and that it’s up to each one of us to create the life that we want. Every obstacle holds a huge gift for us to mine if we choose to perceive it that way. And the opportunity to explore and make choices that embody our own personal truth can be a continuous learning experience full of joy and surprise and love. I want love and connection and adventure and abundance! I hope you’ll join me on my journey in some fashion and that we will find new ways to love, explore and connect.

Mary Tebbs has been called “The Ellen DeGeneres of singer/songwriters,” and for good reason! Her off-the-cuff, quick-witted and endearing performance style will have you laughing in one moment and then she’ll surprise you with a lyrical depth and wisdom that will have you embracing each melodic word.

Mary started her musical adventure in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1989 when a couple of friends heard her make up a song on the spot after her first run in with José Cuervo. The song “Substance Abuse” set Mary on her way to sharing her personality through song. Since then, she’s been writing, singing, and playing whenever she can and has been recognized and awarded for her songwriting and live performances.

She formed her first band in 1992 and has found her true love is not only writing but sharing her songs with a listening audience. The Las Vegas Weekly says, “Tebbs is full of weathered innocence, dealing with love, sensuality and heartache, building it all on a solid foundation of blues and slow mountain funk.”

“There’s nothing more fulfilling than reaching through to people’s hearts and souls with my music. To see and feel them respond and be moved by something that’s at my core connects me with them like nothing else,” Mary says.

Since 1995 she has garnered many awards for her songwriting, claiming the Best Songwriter three years running from the City Weekly (Salt Lake-based weekly newspaper), Best Solo Performer, Best Folk/Acoustic, and receiving a national nomination for Best Jazz Song from GLAMA (Gay Lesbian American Music Awards – based in New York City) for her song “Big Mouth.”

Mary has had the honor of sharing a stage with a wide range of national acts like Weezer, Melissa Ferrick, Karma, Luscious Jackson, Blessid Union of Souls, and The Young Dubliners, to name a few. Her stylistic range allows her to be heard by a wide audience.

Mary has a catalog of over 200 songs that continues to grow as each day offers new inspiration. The City Weekly has described her songs as “Swinging music that’s not afraid to wear its heart on two or three sleeves.”

Mary’s range in songwriting is vast. Seeing her live is like traveling through a landscape dotted with varying emotions. Her music is about sensuality, human emotion, honesty and humor. Her performances are about laughter, reality, getting lost in love, and moving through heartbreak. She’ll have you laughing out loud with songs like “Big Titty Girl,” you’ll feel warmed over with joy when you hear “Blizzard,” and “Make It Light,” you’ll want to rock out to “Wake Up Call,” then feeling sexy with “Tip Of Your Heart,” and she can bring you to tears with a heartbreaking song like “Walk Away.” Mary’s personal favorites, “Regarding Bluedog” and “Fly” offer provocative journeys through self-liberation and love.

Mary’s talent lies in her ability to incorporate many different styles without mimicking anyone. With influences ranging from The Carpenter’s, Hank Williams Sr., Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Ryan Adams, and Squeeze, she adapts warmth, richness, groove, and the down-to-earth realness of simplicity.

One of Mary’s dreams is to become a published songwriter, and believes she has the ability to write any style of song. “One of my greatest pleasures in my musical experience is having someone else sing one of my tunes. It’s one of the rare times that I can listen to and enjoy the song rather than critique it.”

Chili CookOff & Fiesta

Ogden Utah Summer Event Fundraiser

The Ogden Chili Cook-Off and Fiesta celebrate the diversity and commonalities of the Ogden and Northern Utah communities. We would like to invite you to participate in a Community and Cultural Celebration.

National Hispanic Heritage Month begins September 15th and is the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence on September 16th, and Chile on September 18th. Latino/Hispano communities honor those who fought for and won their freedom then, and who continue to do so now, with a day of Fiesta, delighting in the richness of the foods, arts, crafts, and music that they enjoy.

We are bringing the community together with Ogden’s First Annual Chili Cook-Off, inviting local Fire Fighters and Law enforcement agencies to compete in our “Five Alarm” special category. The Fiesta will be featuring performances by local children’s groups, school groups, and professional musicians and visual artists. And providing local vendors an opportunity to display and sell various textiles, arts & crafts, and food representing various cultural groups throughout the Ogden/Northern Utah area. Enjoy a Vintage Car Show (Car Show Entry Forms attached below), Fashion Show displaying local boutique wares, and unique local designer clothing lines.

The day will end with a concert performance by Del Castillo. “This Austin, Texas-based band has developed a huge regional following through their unique merger of flamenco music and rock. Since forming in 2001, the sextet has won a total of 10 Austin Music Awards, while also touring with Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys, Ozomatli, and Willy Nelson.” Del Castillo has also performed in the soundtracks for “Spy Kids 3D: Game Over”, “Kill Bill, Vol.2,” and “Once Upon a Time in Mexico.”

The event will also include community outreach to young local artists for the creation of the signature artwork to commemorate the event. As well as intern opportunities for local college students to learn and participate in various aspects of the event production.

In accordance with our company mission, we are pleased to announce that a percentage of the net proceeds raised at this event will benefit Weber State University Scholarship Foundations and Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College.

Mystic Hot Springs presents Wisebird Band

Wisebird Band, Rock Music, Mystic Music, Mystic Hot Springs, Sevier County, Utah, ConcertWisebird’s recently released self-titled album is a faithful testament to the band’s affinity for the roots of American music. The album captures the organic sound of Wisebird’s heralded live performances. With astonishing musicianship and a passion for song craft, Wisebird takes their audience on a journey–from the up-tempo, second line rhythm of “Immortal Blues” to the gospel-stomp of “Hell” to the gritty funk of “Daylight in the Swamp”. The impressive caliber of this ‘group on the rise’ is attributed to their years of hard work and dedication, which they continually bring to the table. Wisebird individually and collectively has shared the bill with such distinguished national acts as The Derek Trucks Band, The Doobie Brothers, Hot Buttered Rum, The Avett Brothers and many more. Wisebird has played shows from coast to coast, and has been warmly received at festivals such as Desert Rocks, Wakarusa and Las Tortugas. The band continues to garner new fans everywhere they go. With a well-earned popularity in the Western and Northern regions, Wisebird is currently digging their heels into the roots of the Austin music scene and delivering their addictive rhythmic vibes throughout the South and beyond. Hands-down; Wisebird is a show not to be missed.
