Maize Days Festival

The Davis Arts Council is proud to announce the first annual Maize Days Festival on September 11th and 12th located in the beautiful Layton Commons Park. We would like to extend an invitation for you to join us in what we expect will become the premier community arts festival in the area!

The festival will offer a variety of opportunities and activities for everyone in attendance and will draw a large audience from Layton, Davis County, and the surrounding area. The event will feature a farmers market, children’s art yard, arts & crafts booths, food vendors, and entertainment on the Ed Kenley stage.

Festivities will begin Friday afternoon and continue Saturday with the McKay-Dee Hospital Foundation Classic Race 5K, 10K, and 2 mile walk at 8:00 AM.
Maize Days will close with a special concert by VOICE MALE at the Ed Kenley Amphitheater on Saturday evening at 7:00 PM.

Wind Fest & Energy Expo 2009

Entertainment & Events

Brought back by popular demand is the fabulous jet ski Kite Team: Kiteman Productions from Orlando, Florida. If you were unable to attend last year this is one spectacle you should try to see. They are amazing! Also, on the main flying field, Utah Kite Fliers will demonstrate expert flying with their multiple stunt kites both on Friday night under the lights and on Saturday (wind-permitting) all day; the most popular feature of the Wind Fest was the Childrens Kite Making Workshop which will be in full swing this year. Also, we will again feature the Kite Garden display called Aerial Art by local kite creator Scott Hampton. On Saturday at high noon, you can witness the Parade of Flight Small Aircraft fly-over to honor the 1st Anniversary of the Wind Turbines.

Energy Expo

The Wind Fest also features the popular Energy Expo. Vendors, businesses, and Entrepreneurs from the surrounding area will feature “green” products and practices. This Expo is unique in that you can actually test drive a Segway or a Klune Chariot, or an Electric Gem Car. There are many exciting products featured like solar camping gear, low energy stoves, conversion kits for vehicles, and more.

Rock n’ Ribs

$5 Entry Fee (Kids 6 and under free)

Join us for the best BBQ in the West at Rock N’ Ribs. Competitors from all over the nation come to the Gallivan Center in August to compete in this KCBS sanctioned event. The winner gets a coveted invitation to the BBQ Big Time – The Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational and the American Royal Barbeque (the biggest BBQ contests in the world!).

Learn how the champs cook low and slow at our BBQ demonstrations, have your kids have fun on the jump toys, take a picture with Bobby-Q (our offical mascot), or take a picture at our pig pen with our giant pig’natas. Taste some of the local BBQ vendors style with a $3 sample plate while listening to some of the best local artists in Utah.

Sandy Area Restaurants will gather together at the Expo Center for an evening of food, music and family fun!

Come and sample food and drink from some of the best restaurants, bakeries and caterers in the Sandy Area.

The Kids Section will feature inflatable toys, The Jazz Bear, Bumble (Bee’s Mascot), Grizzbee (Grizzlies Mascot) and Real Salt Lake’s Leo the Lion.

Children’s Choir Auditions

The Salt Lake Children’s Choir, Ralph B. Woodward, director, is now scheduling auditions (for its 30th anniversary year) for talented new members from ages 9 through 15. No special preparation is required, all though some instrumental background is very helpful. The choir is a prize-winner in international competition and has long been regarded by choral professionals as one of the finest ensembles of its kind in America. It emphasizes correct vocal development, artistic sensitivity and the use of the world’s outstanding vocal literature (both classical and multi-cultural). Its performances are in the area’s premier concert settings, and it can also be heard on local and national classical radio broadcasts. Harry Potter & The Deathly Hollows Party

Celebrate the Deathly Hallows Part I Premier by stepping in to the wizarding world at the Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point. Partake in a scavenger hunt for the hidden Harry Potter 7horcruxes, dress the part and enter the costume contest or try your hand at Harry Potter Trivia. Wizard Woodruff will be on hand with his owls to delight the crowd. Shop in Diaganon Alley for Potter inspired paraphernalia. The Amber Room will be transformed with witchcraft and wizardry you will enjoy your chance to win door prizes, hands on activities and Potter inspired snacks. Party goers will be sorted in to their house and get to make their own wand.

Princess Academy

Princess Academy, Princess Dresses,  Ages 3-10, Eagle Mountain, Utah, Utah County, Utah Valley, Dress-up, Eagle Mountain City Hall is sponsoring a Princess Academy for ages 3-10 at the city council chambers in Eagle Mountain, Utah February 12, 20112/12/2011

Come dressed in your favorite princess dress. Participants will do two crafts, get their fingernails painted, get a picture with “The Fairy Godmother” and Miss Eagle Mountain, Hartley Lojik and enjoy a royal princess lunch!

Cost is $10/person.

Time:  10am – 12:30pm

Pre-registration required – Sign-up at City Hall (reception desk), space limited to 50.
