Youth Open Hip Hop

Hip-Hop Dance Lessons for Youth

After completing the “Try-out session,” your child can join their Semester Recital Program. They will continue to work & expand on previous skills, acquiring new ones, and will showcase them with a routine at the end of the semester.

No previous experience is required. The students will learn the fundamentals of Hip Hop/Break dancing & learn a fun Choreography that will be performed at the end of the session.

This will help your child to develop coordination and overall confidence, besides giving him/her the knowledge of the dance itself. The instructor has taught Kids and Teens hip-hop classes for the past 8 years and is one of the best in the state. She is a talented and patient instructor with years of teaching & competition experience. Kids love it! Age limit: 9-12 years old.

Martial Arts Festival

Capoeira, Martial Arts, Afro-Brazilian, Salt Lake City, Winter Batizado, Utah

Capoeira is a unique and vibrant Afro-Brazilian martial art that cultivates movement, culture, music, and philosophy. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that includes elements of physical and mental strength, beauty, and power. M. Jamaika often refers to capoeira as a “complete martial art” in that it encompasses a vast spectrum of movement and culture; it incorporates kicks, ground movements, self-defense, acrobatics, music, and tradition.

It is played in a circle, or roda, with two members engaging in various attacks and defenses while maintaining a melodic fluidity. These movements are driven by the rhythms emanating from the roda’s instruments and vocal songs. Capoeira was created by African slaves in Brazil over 500 years ago, and through Mestre Bimba and others, has since become a recognized art form. Capoeira can be done by anyone of any age or size, and its benefits are evident in all who take it on. It is a beautiful expression, which is best understood through active experience.

Center for Documentary Arts

The Center for Documentary Arts (CDA) is dedicated to using the tools of documentary work – photography, oral history, film making, narrative writing, radio broadcasting, and visual art – to help Utahns look inward to better understand our state’s past and present and to gaze outward to discover our connection to the nation and to the world. CDA creates and supports projects that examine and honor the cultural, spiritual, and ethnic identities of our nation’s diverse population in forums wherein we can acknowledge differences, establish common ground, and hence, build community.
