*Is it open mike or open mic? I’ve seen it spelled both ways. So I checked my dictionary, which lists mike as the preferred spelling, and mic as a variant. Other dictionaries I consulted didn’t include mic at all. Still unsatisfied, I checked Bryan A. Garner’s Dictionary of Modern American Usage (1998 edition). Garner argues, “Whereas mike more immediately suggests the pronunciation, mic more immediately suggests the longer form. All in all, mic might be considered preferable.”

Of the three Megaplex IMAX screens (Jordan Commons, Valley Fair, The District), only JC’s screen has a full IMAX aspect ratio of 1.43:1. The other two are 1.80:1 (aka LieMAX aspect ratio). Some of Oppenheimer was shot in 1.43, which means the 1.80 screens would be missing about 20% of the complete picture of the 1.43 scenes. All three of the IMAX theaters use digital 2k xenon projectors, which are relatively low resolution. Unfortunately, there aren’t any 70mm or 4k laser IMAX theaters here. The Cinemark “XD” screens are equivalent scale to the Megaplex LieMAX screens.

For the best available picture quality (better than above IMAX screens), but smaller screens with cropped aspect ratio, Broadway Theater is showing in 35mm, and the Gateway Megaplex has theaters with new laser projectors with Dolby Atmos sound.

So depends on what you prefer – the largest/complete picture (JC IMAX) or better picture quality (Broadway 35mm, Gateway laser). —u/al00f_0wl, Reddit, Salt Lake City

Wasatch Wiggle Contra Dance Weekend

Music by Great Bear Trio (New York), calling Susan Michaels (California). Susan is a teacher and a caller of traditional American dancing, especially contra dancing and square dancing. She has called and taught dances at local evenings, weekend workshops, week-long elementary school programs, week-long family camps, and dance weekends throughout the U.S. and Canada. Susan believes her “calling” in life is to teach people how to hold hands in a circle. She specializes in creating joy, making community, and allowing everyone with whom she comes into contact to experience the pure pleasure of dance.
