Steven Swift (Acoustic Folk-Pop Blues)

The influences of Steven Swift are interwoven throughout his music – the rockin’ blues he was initially inspired by and soaked up as a youngster, the honest, good-natured delivery of the most successful solo artists such as Jeff Tweedy(WILCO) and Ben Harper, the jam bands that rock in a loose freeform style like Phish and the fine tuned finger-picking talents of Leo Kottke, John Fahey or Kelly Joe Phelps. Swift continues to devour the recordings of his musical heros which inspire him to create music that is unique and personal – music that feels familiar but sounds like nothing heard before. Several years as front man in his own band or serving as rhythm section or vocalist in many others has given Swift the expertise and know-how to produce what each individual song needs to stand on it’s own. The variety and style of Steven’s songs come from his keen observation and natural sense of rhythm and balance. Much is here; love, sorrow, anger, pain, regret and upbeat optimism.

Stacey Board – Acoustic Folk Rock

Stacey Board will be playing the Downtown Farmers Market!

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Stacey Board was born in Decatur, AL. She began singing as a small child, and is mostly self-taught, though she did take some voice lessons and a little classical guitar training. Board wrote her first song when she was a teenager. Around that same time, when she was about 16, a dare to sing on the sidewalk outside of a local radio station — which she jokingly counts as her debut public appearance — landed her a membership in her first band.

Cotton Jones with Oh My God

Cotton Jones with Oh My God and Paul Jacobsen and the Madison Arm

Cumberland, Maryland-based band, The Cotton Jones Basket Ride is an indie folk-pop band currently signed to Suicide Squeeze Records. The band started as a side project for Michael Nau, lead singer and creator of Page France, and has since become a full-time project, releasing a series of EPs and embarking on its first large scale tour.

Cotton Jones Band, Music, Musical Artists, Musicians, Acoustic, FolkBiology says: That people who live at high altitudes must develop physiological adaptations to the decreased amount of oxygen available in order to maintain homeostasis. The list of adaptations includes a heart that is proportionally larger thanthat of a person living at sealevel. Michael Nau and Whitney McGraw have hearts huge, hearts full of music that mixes elements of soul, rock and gospel into a gauzy cocoon of small town sound.

Horse Feathers Band

The Portland, OR, folk duo Horse Feathers consist of singer/songwriter Justin Ringle (acoustic guitar, vocals, percussion) and multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick (violin, banjo, mandolin, cello, viola, piano, saw, percussion, vocals). Ringle grew up in Idaho and played in several short-lived indie rock bands during his teenage years, but moved to Portland in 2004, where he met Broderick, who was already a member of the more established Portland band Norfolk & Western. They spent much of 2005 writing songs and honing their live performances at various Portland open-mike nights. Influenced by both the stark folk music of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska and the post-classical work of Scandinavian composer Max Richter, the duo entered the studio in February 2006 to record its debut album, Words Are Dead , 11 chamber-folk tracks featuring Ringle’s high, reedy vocals and enigmatic lyrics and Broderick’s baroque filigree. Words Are Dead was released on Lucky Madison Records in September 2006. The band inked a deal with the Kill Rock Stars label the following year, releasing House with No Home in 2008. – All Music Guide

McKail Seely

Musician Singer-Songwriter from Utah

As young as she is, she has a voice that strikes of maturity and season. Beginning her career in a singing and dancing group, McKail was often chosen to perform as a soloist because of her strong range and distinctive style. Moving away from the group setting in the last year, she has chosen to pursue a career as a solo artist. In a recent talent search, the judge said of her, “She has great eyes and a wonderful smile and knows how to use both to her advantage.”

McKail picked up the guitar for the first time in the past year to begin writing her own original songs. Her talent on the guitar shone quickly as she began to perform just a few months after beginning, playing like someone who has been taking guitar for a few years, with fingering and chording that is indicative of those who have been playing for more than just a few months. Her performance and style has settled in nicely with her making a choice to play her own music.

Eric McFadden Trio (EMT)

A veteran of celebrated underground bands including Liar, the Eric McFadden Experience, Alien Lovestock and IZM, Eric McFadden’s sinister songs, vampiric vocals and flamenco-rock guitar improvisations have made him an icon along America’s western seaboard. Lest you dismiss the preceding as absurd hyperbole, consider the fact that McFadden has performed and recorded with the lordly likes of Bo Diddley, the late Joe Strummer, and Widespread Panic.

Eric McFadden Trio, Hog Wallow, Utah, Cottonwood Heights, Rock, Music, BandEric McFadden was destined to be different. His mother sang in an early incarnation of the Fugs, the Ed Saunders-led New York ensemble that was arguably the first underground rock band. Bob Dylan slept on the McFadden couch while Eric was still in the womb, and counter culture poet (and neighbor) Allen Ginsberg successfully protested when the family was faced with eviction from their Greenwich Village apartment. McFadden’s father turned Eric on to Jimi Hendrix and the Mahavishnu Orchestra at a young age—influences he would combine with flamenco, punk, and heavy metal to form a unique style.
