Train Ride Utah History

All Aboard! Enjoy a spectacular view of the Salt Lake Valley and the Park when you climb aboard one of our three replica trains. You’ll hear the story of the settlement, and see dozens of landmarks by riding one of the most popular features in the Park, the This Is The Place Railroad.

This Is The Place Heritage Park Train 119, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake county, Historical, Family, Children's Activities, EducationalIf this is your first visit to the Park, here’s a hint. Before you do anything else, ride the train around the Village to see all the Park has to offer. Then you can plan where and what you’d like to visit once you get off!

While not exact replicas, two of our train engines represent the Jupiter and 119 that met at Promontory Point, Utah, in 1869 to complete the first transcontinental railroad. The newest addition to our train fleet is the Blackhawk, named after the first train that completed the journey from Ogden, Utah to Salt Lake City. Additionally, a “mini-train”; on tracks runs around Settlers’ Pond especially for children to enjoy as part of their visit to the Park. Hear the clacking of the rails and the steam of the engine like days gone by.

Admissions: Adults $5.00,  Children (3-11) $3.00, Seniors (55+) $3.00

Halloween, Haunted House, Haunted Woods, UtahA Family Friendly Haunted House with proceeds benefiting the Boy Scouts of America GSLC at Camp Tracy Lodge in Mill Creek Canyon.

We take pride in being Utah’s only family friendly haunted attraction.  This annual event is created and performed for cub scout/boy scout aged groups.  It is also popular for girl scout and Activity Day groups.  We do not allow graphic violence, foul language, or demonic beings.  But, it will be intensely fun and a bit scary.

Free Juggling Show

Wasatch Front Jugglers, Trolley Square, Salt Lake City, Utah, Lessons, Classes, Free Learn to JuggleThe Wasatch Front Jugglers (WFJ) meets every Sunday (barring holidays/special events) from 3:30 to 6:30 P.M. at Trolley Square Mall, located at 600 South and 700 East in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Our normal meeting space, the indoor amphitheatre on the South side of Trolley Square is currently under construction. In the meantime, we are meeting on the North side of the main building (the outdoor amphitheatre/fountain), near the bank.

The meetings are completely open, as practice sessions – we hope to see new people who want to learn to juggle, amateurs who want to practice or learn new tips, and professionals who just want to have a good time. The meetings are unstructured- and work as an open, group practice.

We encourage anyone and everyone to meet us at Trolley Square, as our practice sessions are open to everyone… whether you are a spectator or just hoping to join in the fun and learn to juggle!

Afro-Brazilian Dance Circle “Roda”

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art which includes elements of physical and mental strength, beauty, and power. M. Jamaika often refers to capoeira as a “complete martial art” in that it encompasses a vast spectrum of movement and culture; it incorporates kicks, ground movements, self-defense, acrobatics, music, and tradition.

Capoeira Roda Circle, Dance Lessons, Afro, Brazilian, Martial Arts, Salt Lake City, Utah, Utah Arts CenterIt is played in a circle, or roda, with two members engaging in various attacks and defenses while maintaining a melodic fluidity. These movements are driven by the rhythms emanating from the roda’s instruments and vocal song. Capoeira was created by African slaves in Brazil over 500 years ago, and through Mestre Bimba and others, has since become a recognized art form. Capoeira can be done by anyone of any age or size and its benefits are evident in all who take it on. It is a beautiful expression.

Salt Lake Capoeira offers classes for all levels and types of students in Utah.

Classes focus on all aspects of Capoeira: strength, flexibility, movement, endurance, coordination, interaction, rhythmic skills, vocal and instrumental skills, cultural awareness, performance, and community.
