planetarium shows

BYU Astronomical Society

Weekly Public Planetarium Shows planetarium shows given by the BYU Astronomical Society are held most Friday nights.

The shows start promptly at 7 and 8 PM.  There is no late admittance. Because it gets very dark in the planetarium the shows may not be appropriate for some young children. Please keep in mind that it is difficult to leave once the show has begun.

After the shows, the observation deck on the roof will be open, weather permitting, with telescopes setup for the public to look through.

The Planetarium is located in room N465 on the 4th floor of the Eyring Science Center on BYU Campus in Provo, Utah.

MPC Date Nights

Take a step into the past and bring a date to BYU’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) to experience a night of Egyptian culture and cuisine.

The date night includes 4 games, a craft, refreshments, and prizes.  First on the agenda is a mummy-wrapping race in which one person must wrap up their date like a mummy.  The first couple to finish wins a prize.  Couples will then receive score cards and go into the Museum’s classroom to play a round of 3 different games: Pyramid, Egyptian Balderdash, and Matching of the Gods.  The couple with the highest total wins a prize.  The final prizes are awarded to couples with the best craft, after they take time to use the MPC’s own “Rosetta stone” to paint their own hieroglyphs.  Mediterranean refreshments are served.

“Couples get to learn about the Egyptian culture in a really unique way,” said Anna McKean, promotions manager at the MPC.  “Every element of the date night – the games, the craft, the food – provides interesting information about Ancient Egypt.”

The Museum of Peoples and Cultures offers a variety of date nights throughout the semester. Each date night is themed and includes relevant activities and refreshments

Christmas At Heritage Park

It’s hard to describe the magic of Candlelight Christmas. The Village is decorated like a Currier & Ives card, and you’ll feel like you’ve taken a step back in time when you visit this enchanting event.

You’ll enjoy a visit with Father Christmas and see real live reindeer. In the quiet of the Village, the live Nativity scene is sure to touch the hearts of young and old alike. The Heritage Village Carolers return each year for an encore presentation, providing an inspiring backdrop to the glitter of lights, the glow of warm fires, and the smells of Christmas.

Take home a little bit of Christmas by joining in the fun of making crafts and homemade decorations in one of the decorated historic homes or pioneer cabins. And you can save all your holiday shopping for your visit to the Park. The Gift Shop at the Visitors Center and the ZCMI Mercantile have Salt Lake’s best selection of unique, all-occasion gifts for everyone on your list!

Observe a Christmas as the pioneers did – quieter, simpler, fun for all. Make Candlelight Christmas part of your cherished family traditions.
